The clinical significance of determining circulating immune complexes (CIC) was studied in 26 patients with infectious endocarditis using the precipitation of the complexes: antibody.sbd.antigen by polyethylene glycol. The frequency of finding CIC in patients varied from 50 to 77% and depended on the concentration of polyethylene glycol. The level of CIC was higher in patients with primary infectious endocarditis than in those with endocarditis and rheumatic cardiac failure. A case history of a 55 yr-old man was described. Data were presented on the changes in the level of CIC in patients subjected to antibacterial therapy.
