The effect of different antiaggregating doses of ticlopidine upon the hyperlipemic profile in a model of experimental atherosclerosis in the rat was studied. Daily administration of different doses of ticlopidine (40, 80, 160 mg/kg) was carried out during the 15 days of atherosclerosis induction, producing the following results vs. the atherosclerotic control group: a slight decrease in plasmatic cholesterol (significant for 40 mg/kg per day). A statistically significant increase of the cholesterol-HDL [high-density lipoprotein], which respects a dose-effect relationship, and an increase of cholesterol-HDL percentage was noted. These values agree with the electrophoretic evolution of the lipoproteinogram on cellulose acetate. The plasmatic triglycerides weren't significantly studied and the total lipids showed a significant statistical decrease at the doses of 40 and 80 mg/kg per day. The beneficial effects of ticlopidine in atherosclerotic process might be mediated not only by its antiaggregating properties but also by its increased action of cholesterol-HDL.
