The methodology of the determination of the LD50 was subjected to a critical appraisal with regard to the evauation of the acute toxicity. The following problems were discussed focusing attention on the acute toxicity of pesticides: estimation of an approximate LD50 including a semiquantitative evaluation of behvioral parameters, intensified pathomorphological investigation and consequence of a reduced animal number.
