Implantation of Silastic rods containing 25 or 50% aspirin (a prostaglandin synthesis inhibitor) adjacent to the epididymis of rats caused a temporary reduction in fertility with no loss of ability to copulate. The time of onset and duration of this effect was variable. Drug-free Silastic rods had no effect on fertility. This suppression in fertility could be produced by a change in the fertilizing capacity of sperm brought about either by a change in the biochemistry of semen or by a physiological lesion of the sperm.
