Vitamin D level in slum children of Delhi

This study measured the blood level of 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in 196 children aged 9 to 30 months, residing in 3 different areas of Delhi, India. In Rajiv colony, 82.9% of children were vitamin D deficient with levels below 35 nmol/litre (mean level 23.76 nmol/litre, SD 27.03). In Gurgaon, 82% of children were vitamin D deficient with a mean level of 19.2 nmol/litre (SD 20.2). Most samples taken from Sundernagari however had normal levels of vitamin D; 2% of children were vitamin D deficient and the mean vitamin D level was 96.3 nmol/litre (SD25.7).
