For 60 days rats, 5-10 months old, were given daily by gastric tube 3 ml 30% ethanol alone or with onion oil or garlic oil 100 mg/kg body weight. Ethanol increased cholesterol and triglyceride in serum, liver and kidneys, total lipid in liver and decreased serum albumin. Those changes were prevented in rats given oils. Ethanol with or without oils had no effect on total protein in serum, liver and kidneys.
