In 1890/91 the discovery of tuberculin by Robert Koch and the fiasco of its curative application in men were outstanding events in medicine and in the public. The scientific and medical background is evaluated again and connected with the political reasons of the Prussian government. Several documents found in archives of East Germany are published the first time.
