Hamsters were inoculated orally with approximately 600 Balantidium coli cysts and examined one to 6 months later. Infection caused decreases in cytochrome oxidase and succinate dehydrogenase activities in the host liver and increases in lactic and beta -hydroxybutyric dehydrogenases.
