Rengali Multipurpose Project located in Anugul district, Orissa, was commissioned in the year 1985. The downstream area of the spillway bucket showed occurrences of scoured pockets since 1992. These scoured pockets became alarming after the flood of 1995. The scoured pockets show a linear trend of NW-SE and are confined within acid charnockites. The scouring trend when projected coincides with a very insignificant shear zone present in the foundation of the right training wall. It is apprehended that retrogression, unless checked, may affect the training wall. Concrete apron of suitable thickness or boulder crates of sufficient weights have been suggested in front of the training wall to stop retrograde erosion.
