Chlormethiazole in the management of eclampsia

The use of Chlormethiazole in the control of eclamptic fits is presented. During the 7 yr period, the maternal and perinatal mortalities from eclampsia were 3.3% and 10.5%, respectively. Chlormethiazole was found to be effective in the control and prevention of eclamptic seizures. It is easy to administer and is very rapidly metabolized. Because of the 3-4 min required to prepare and administer the drug, there was a tendency to use i.m. diazepam in the initial control of eclamptic seizures.
