Patent ductus venosus was diagnosed by splenoportography in a cat which since six months of age had shown restlessness, episodic ptyalism, consistent aggression and, later, episodes of ataxia. The episodes of ataxia and ptyalism were controlled by feeding a low protein diet, but the aggression continued. Surgical ligation of the shunt was recommended.
