Microangiographic studies of the superficial and deep veins in the human liver

Livers of 20 adult humans were studied. One hundred microangiograms of the blood vessels filled with the contrast medium were made. The distinct differences between the superficial and deep vascular networks formed by the terminal branches of the portal vein were noted. These differences refer to the density, course and branches of the so-called axial preterminal vessels. The microangiographic studies revealed that, within the whole organ, the vascular network forms an uniform structure continuing through the all lobes and segments of the liver.
