Oral rehydration solution (ORS) prepared from tap water on storage showed an increase in the presumptive coli form count from 5-11/100 ml at 0 h to > 1800/100 ml at 12 h. If boiled cooled water was used to prepare ORS, there was no multiplication of bacteria. The quantity of ORS did not make any difference in the multiplication of bacteria.
