Congenital factor IX deficiency was diagnosed in a 15-week-old male Labrador Retriever. Clinical signs included subcutaneous haematomas, profuse haemorrhage from a surgical wound, and haemarthrosis. The signs abated when the dog was treated with fresh whole blood or plasma. Specific clotting-factor assays confirmed the diagnosis in the patient and three male littermates, and identified the carrier state in one female littermate.
