The serum levels of tisular polipeptidic antigen (TPA) were assayed by RIA (Prolifigin kit) in 73 patients with prostatic neoplasia, both treated and untreated; 64 of the patients were submitted to hormonal treatment, alone or associated with transurethral resection. The overall positive rate of TPA was 37%. In treated patients, the positivity percentage increased with progression. The interest of TPA in this type of tumor is scarce, and should only be used as a complement to other explorations in stable or progressing disease, with normal or discreetly increased prostatic acid phosphatase (35% of the statistic).
