The aim of this paper is to examine the behavior of blood pressure (BP) in association with certain particular determinants in children. The study was carried out on 662 male and female children (10-13 yr old) from 2 state schools in Naples [Italy]. It was observed that systolic blood pressure (SBP) increases with age; diastolic blood pressure phase 5 (DBP5) is more closely correlated to weight, height and body surface (S2) than diastolic blood pressure phase 4 (DBP4). The first order correlation coefficient between BP and body surface shows a close fit (P .ltoreq. 0.001) for both sexes. The standard mean values obtained enable BP determination in 10-13 yr old children according to body surface. The results confirm the close connection between BP and body surface. A further study is the progress with the aim of formulating a standard evaluation scale for all age groups.
