Surgical treatment of gastric cancer in a peripheral hospital

A retrospective survey of 53 cases of advanced gastric cancer treated during the yr 1971-1980 is presented. The majority were in the 7th and 8th decades. Chief complaints were upper abdominal pain and weight loss. Gastrointestinal contrast studies were done but not endoscopic examinations. The most common location was in the gastric antrum. Five-year survival of the operated patients was 5.6%, similar to the results of other reported series.
