An experiment in clinical medicine was conducted between Space Application Center Television Studio, Ahmedabad and Delhi Earth Station [India] using the satellite communications channel. The objectives were to establish its feasibility and to suggest modifications in medical equipment. Two way audio and video channels were established and special transducers for conducting sounds were used. In pediatric cardiac and respiratory cases, transmission of audio signals were satisfactory and clarity of video signals permitted very accurate observations. However, in antenatal methods, record of blood pressure was accurate but fetal heart sounds could not be heard well. Future possibility of such a nationwide network has been suggested to extend health facilities to remote parts of the country.
