Liver morphology was examined in 20 ulcerative colitis patients. Nine women and 11 men aged 22-68 yr (.hivin.X - 41.2) yr were studied. Duration of illness varied from 2 mo.-14 yr (.hivin.X - 4.2 yr). Blind liver biopsy was performed in the early stage of the disease. Fatty liver and lipofuscin in hepatocytes was noticed in 75% of cases, while inflammatory infiltrate in the portal tract were seen in 80% of patients. Inflammatory infiltrate was accompanied by an increase in number of Browicz-Kupffer cells. Degree of liver involvement was only slight by morphology and did not aggravate the duration of the illness.
