A (dz/dt) max and P-A interval were measured in 32 normal subjects (group 1), 32 ECG Ptf-V1 positive patients (group 2) and 32 coronary heart disease patients without positive Ptf-V1 (group 3). The mean values for a (dz/dt) max in the 3 groups were 0.48 .+-. 0.28, 0.69 .+-. 0.39 and 0.82 .+-. 0.33 .OMEGA./s. The mean P-A interval values were 108.77 .+-. 28.21, 144.69 .+-. 41.58 and 149.06 .+-. 21.76 ms. In normals, the aged phenomenon of A wave was found, but not the P-A interval. The abnormal A (dz/dt) max and P-A interval in the impedance cardiogram (ICG) may reflect left atrial overload and/or impaired left atrial conduction system and may also indirectly reflect left ventricular dysfunction. A preliminary approach to the relationship of the P-A interval and Ptf-V1 is made.
