The administration of 2,4-dinitrophenol increases significantly the contraction of . The nature of the effect of dinitrophenol and E together was suggested to be explained by the formation of an E-dinitrophenol complex. Spectrophotometric analysis of plasma of rats treated and not treated with dinitrophenol supported this theory. The new E.sbd.dinitrophenol complex will potentialize the effect of E on the membrane, increasing the membrane depolarization and inducing muscle contraction, which consequently increases glycogen degradation.
