Effects of an anabolic steroid on acute uremia in the dog

Four groups of dogs made acutely uremic were treated with placebo, 0.5 mg/kg, 1.0 mg/kg and 1.5 mg/kg of an anabolic steroid (3-oxo-.DELTA.1,4-androstadien-17.beta.-ol undecylenate). Pretreatment and posttreatment measurements of food intake, body weight, PCV , serum creatinine concentration, plasma albumin concentration, nitrogen balance,lean body mass and limb circumference did not indicate any beneficial effect of this drug in this model of acute uremia.
