Specific gravity of bovine blood as affected by breed and age

Specific gravity measurements, made on 142 whole blood samples from dairy heifers of the Guernsey, Holstein-Friesian, and Jersey breeds at 0 to 6 weeks, 3 months, and 1, 2, and 4 years, averaged 1.046, 1.049, 1.052, 1.051 and 1.051, respectively. Differences due to age at each stage up to one year were significant, and differences between breeds at any given age were negligible.
