Spinal reflex thresholds as related to mechanical stresses and aging

The spinal reflex thresholds (SRT) that were observed in the dog varied from animal to animal, from stimulation site to site and as regards the different tissues being stimulated; no 2 animals had identical SRT. Overall reflex responses to stimulation, with one exception, decreased with senescence. The exception was that in certain animals the SRT was low in all age groups upon stimulation fo the supraspinous tissues at T11 . In animals where there was a low SRT at T11, this might be due to excessive mechanical stresses and strains at the transitional anticlinal area.
