147 strains included 26 from cows with mastitis, 8 from healthy sheep, 20 from slaughtered swine, 65 from healthy and diseased fowls, 23 from healthy and diseased mink, two from farmed foxes, one from a sable and two from rabbits. All possessed catalase activity. Among the strains of Staphylococcus aureus, 56 poultry strains produced enterotoxin type B2 (Wadsworth), 17 porcine strains B1, 9 bovine strains type C1 and one ovine strain C2. Thirteen of 23 strains of S. intermedius produced type E ("canis") enterotoxin, and the remainder were atypical. Protein A was present in half of the intermedius strains.
