Scoleces of E. multilocularis obtained from experimentally infested animals are compared with scoleces of E. granulosus from naturally infested animals towards homologous and heterologous sera (fluorescent antibody test). The antigens of larvae of both species are differently located, but larvae show a very close degree of antigenic reactivity. The use of scoleces of E. multilocularis does not improve the sensibility of the test applied to the diagnosis of echinococcosis. But the production of large amounts of antigen might allow regular investigations among high risk people.
