The cytostatic effect of macrophages of cancer patients on hepatoma cell line was studied. Macrophages partial inhibited the incorporation of 125IUdR into 7402 hepatoma cells. The cytostatic effect of macrophages was present when the ratio of E:T was 1:1. The larger the ratio of E:T, the stronger is the cytostatic effect. The cytostatic effect is detected in the early stage of contact of both cells. It becomes more marked at the 48th hour. This effect seems to be stronger in patients with liver cancer than in patients with other cancers. The effect of macrophages on cancer cell in vitro is a nonspecific inhibition.
