The 4 species of Sarcocystis so far described in domestic and wild goats are S. moulei, S. orientalis, S. caprifelis and S. capracanis in a dwarf goat simultaneously infected with S. capracanis. The present authors separated the 2 species by microscopic sorting of sporocysts, and infected a kid with S. hircicanis sporocysts. Meat from this goat and other infected goats was fed to dogs, in which the first sporulated oocysts were found in intestinal villi after 12 days. During schizogony and cyst formation in goats, and during development in dogs, there was a clear distinction between S. capracanis and S. hircicanis in morphology and dimensions of the various stages.
