Correlation of model and natural channel permeability properties in biological membranes

It is suggested on the strength of the evidence concerning the properties of conductivity channels formed by non-membrane proteins (toxins of different sources, peptide hormones, cytoplasmic channel former) in a lipid bilayer, that such channel forming polypeptides may have evolved from the usual cell membrane channels. Consequently, non-membrane channel forming proteins are the most adequate model of ionic channels in biological membranes. The selective action of some of these proteins results from the existence of receptor structures in target organs, which possibly only concentrate the channel former.
