The substantive and structural aspects of emotional reactions were studied in 107 patients with melancholic, anxious, and apathic depression by using dialogue and the Rorschach test. In melancholic depression, a correlation between the actualization of higher values and a high controllability of affective manifestations was established; in anxious depression, there was a correlation between the actualization of lower values and a decreased controllability of affective manifestations; and in apathic depression, the breakdown of the scale of values was associated with the uncontrollability of affective presentations.
