Systolic blood pressure rose significantly in weanling rats fed on a fresh diet of rice, skipjack tuna, soya bean products and vegetables (simulated Japanese diet with 4% NaCl by weight on a dry basis) for 3 months. No rise of blood pressure occurred in similar animals on a control diet or fresh diet from which fish or both fish and soya bean products had been omitted.
