Linear physical growth of 58 premature infants of birthweight appropriate for their gestational age was studied from birth to 6 years old and compared with that of term controls, with a birthweight of 2500 g or more. The difference in bodyweight, height and head circumference at birth decreased significantly by 6, 4 and 2 years old, respectively. By the end of 6 years, the premature infants were comparable to controls in height and head circumference. Although the difference in bodyweight between the two groups decreased with age, the premature infants were still lighter than the term infants.
