An EM characterization (descriptions and photographs) of 18 cases diagnosed or suspected as malignant lymphoma was prepared on the basis of light microscope examinations. EM examination confirmed the light microscope diagnosis in 13 cases, and in 2 supported the light microscope histopathological diagnosis. In 3 cases the EM results gave a basis for the reconsideration of the histopathological diagnosis, since in 2 cases the additional information obtained by the EM examination effected a change in the light microscope diagnosis and in 1 case the EM diagnosis was set aside. It seems that in very malignant tumors (low differentiated or anaplastic) EM examinations may support the diagnosis by revealing features of plasmatic or histiocytic differentiation.
