Present ultrastructural analysis confirms previous views (deHaan 1961, Anderson and Taylor 1972, Wenink 1976) that there are at least 2 myoblast populations. One gives rise to the ventricular and atrial working myoblasts and myocytes and the other to the specialized conductive cells forming the various parts of the conduction system. Quantitative morphometric methods were used to objectively confirm qualitative findings.
