Development of internodal connections of the conduction system of the human heart

In the wall of the interatrial septum, an accessory bundle of conductive tissue joining the SA node was demonstrated in human fetal hearts. Apparently it is a branch of the bundle described by Paes De Carvalho (1959), James (1970) and others in rabbit and monkey hearts, which they termed the sino-atrial ring bundle (SARB). Two types of cells were found in the atrial musculature. An accessory nodule above the lateral wall of the right ventricle is described. Should this structure persist in adulthood, it could form an anatomical basis for conduction disturbances. Histochemical verification of the findings in the light microscope is submitted.
