Alveolar macrophages from normal and BCG-vaccinated rabbits have proteolytic activity against azocasein and hydrolyze synthetic substrates for the detection of cathepsin G and cathepsin B. These activities were located in granules using latency studies and analytical fractionation by isopycnic centrifugation of macrophage homogenates.
