Of 22 Martes foina submitted for PM examination during 1979/80, six (all of which had exhibited CNS symptoms before being killed) had non-purulent encephalitis. Distemper virus was demonstrated by immunofluorescence in the brain of these six and also in the liver of four of these. All were negative for rabies.
