In dogs with traumatic shock phosphorylase activity in whole venous blood falls while the activity of glucose-6-phosphate isomerase increases. The longer shock hypotension lasts, the more marked are the enzymatic shifts, of which there is a statistically significant decrease of the glycolytic coefficient. Severe shock is attended by an increase in the amount of bound water in blood. In mild shock the ocntent of free water increases while that of bound water decreases. The amount of total protein diminishes. In shock resistant animals, hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity in leukocytes reduces in the erectile phase, the glucose content increases and the lactate level decreases.
