Treatment of chronic granulocytic leukaemia in chronic phase by allogeneic marrow transplantation

Ten patient with chronic granulocytic leukemia in the chronic phase were treated with chemoradiotherapy followed by transplantation of bone marrow from HLA-identical siblings. Engraftment was achieved in all patients; Philadelphia chromosome disappeared from the 9 patients who had it before transplantation. Four patients have died, 3 with interstitial pneumonitis and 1 with sever graft-vs.-host disease (GvHD). Six patients are alive and well in complete clinical, cytogenetic and hematological remission, 1-3 yr after transplantation, despite complications in 3 patients (1 had interstitial pneumonitis, 1 had mild veno-occlusive disease of the liver and 1 had severe GvHD).
