Surgical excision of gastric ulcers near the gastroesophageal junction

While most gastric ulcers can be excised by conventional techniques, the principle of freehand excision of the ulcer can be extremely useful in those ulcers near the gastroesophageal junction. Ten patients treated by this operative procedure have had no recurrence of the ulcer and no postoperative problems during a follow-up period from 1-4 yr.
