Natural history of idiopathic preretinal macular fibrosis

A prospective study of 47 eyes with idiopathic preretinal macular fibrosis showed no further decrease of visual acuity in 87% of eyes, and no change of clinical appearance in 83% of eyes during a mean 38 mo. period (range, 25-49 mo.) after initial visual acuity loss. No patient had visual acuity worse than 6/60 (20/200) and the majority (77%) had visual acuity of 6/18 (20/60) or better at the conclusion of the study.
