Renal involvement of lupus: treatment and new concepts of its pathogenesis

Two case histories were reported and the recent literature are reviewed. Both patients presented with arthralgia. Treatment, surveillance and prognosis of lupus nephropathy are discussed, including experimental data, pathogenesis of human lupus glomerulonephritis (histology, biology and treatment). Patients with relatively inactive lesions require only small doses of corticoids or cytotoxic agents. While corticoids and immunosuppressors have proven their efficacy, this does not exclude new etiopathogenic approaches to treating disseminating lupus erythematosus.
