Epidemiology of hookworm disease and iron deficiency anaemia in Kenya

Iron deficiency is the commonest cause of anaemia in Kenya. Its prevalence, laboratory and community diagnosis, public health importance and medicinal management of iron-deficiency anaemia are discussed in the Kenyan context. Hookworm disease is the main cause of iron deficiency in Kenya. This deficiency is aggravated by other factors resulting in anaemia. The management of this anaemia calls for specific curative and public health measures to prevent recurrence.
