Fungi were cultured from 12 of 60 (20%) patients with corneal ulcer, including 6 Aspergillus sp., 2 Candida albicans, 2 Penicillium chrysogenum and 2 Curvularia lunata [Cochliobolus lunatus]. These isolates were tested in vitro against various drugs. Sodium sulphacetamide and alum showed remarkable fungistatic activity. Nystatin, trifala, doxycycline and garamycin also showed fungistatic activity, in descending order.
