The theory of traditional Chinese medicine concerning spleen deficiency was studied clinically and experimentally. This deficiency is characterized chiefly by gastrointestinal tract disturbances of absorption, secretion and peristalsis and maladjustment of bodily nutritional metabolism. This study also links the state with respiratory diseases.
