Spirometric lung functions (FVC ) in .apprx. 7600 normal Israeli men are presented. FVC and FEV correlated best with height and age. Correlations with weight, smoking habits, ethnic origin and several other health parameters were much lower. Prediction formulas were developed for the Israeli population (linear regression on height and age). Most prediction formulas in use in other countries do not fit the Israeli population. With the new prediction formulas better sensitivity and specificity of these tests were achieved.
