Isolated IgG hypogammaglobulinemia in acrodermatitis enteropathica: correction with zinc therapy

Examination of a white girl 13 months old, who was failing to thrive and had a 9-month history of eczemoid vesiculopustular rash and recurrent infections, showed that she had isolated immunoglobulin G hypogammaglobulinaemia. Her intake of Zn was normal, 6.5 mg daily, but Zn values in serum and hair were low. Treatment with zinc sulphate by mouth rapidly improved her clinical and immune state.
