Serum gamma-glutamyltransferase in equids: reference physiologic values

Gamma-glutamyltransferase reference values in 277 clinically healthy horses and ponies had a log-gaussian distribution with an upper limit of physiological values at 24 U/litre. Reference values were about 2 units lower in males than in females and geldings, and values were slightly higher in horses used for racing than in horses used for riding, draft horses, and ponies. Age, pregnancy, and season of the year seemed to have no, or only minor effect, on enzyme values.
