Pharmacokinetics of intravenous buprenorphine in patients anesthetized with N2O-buprenorphine

Pharmacokinetics of i.v. buprenorphine 6 or 8 .mu.g/kg was studied in 4 surgical patients under N2O-buprenorphine and relaxant anesthesia. Plasma levels of buprenorphine were determined by radioimmunoassay. Plasma levels were measured for over 5 h. The data fitted closely to a biexponential decay curve. There were a fast initial phase with a half-life of 8.8 and 4.7 min for 6 and 8 .mu.g/kg i.v. and a late phase with a half-life of 106.6 min for both doses.
