Quantitative evaluation of entero-gastric reflux using Tc99 HIDA

99mTc-HIDA [N-(2,6-dimethyl-phenylcarbamoylmethyl)-iminodiacetic acid] was used to study the enterogastric reflux in 24 subjects, 6 asymptomatic individuals and 18 previously submitted to gastric surgery for ulcers through truncular vagotomy and pyloroplasty, gastrectomy with either Billroth I or Billroth II reconstruction. In the control group there was no evidence of reflux. In the subject group, 7 of the 18 patients clearly showed enterogastric reflux. The method apparently can be readily performed without morbidity, and provides a clear picture of enterogastric reflux.
